We Live in a John Wick Society

I believe we live in society similar to the one from the movie John Wick.

I know this because I've been around the dividing line between what right and wrong all my life.

The world most people see is only the surface, the tip of the iceberg.

Everyone is more closely connected than you realize. It is not uncommon from where I from for the typical lay person to know or know someone who knows someone in a high status position or endowed with riches.

In my world, money, power do not carry as much weight as loyalty and respect.

In the underworld, being reliable and trustworthy is the same as being rich and powerful, often going hand in hand.

When you deal with people who teeter between illegal and legal ventures, you get a better grasp for what is real. These people are blunt, direct, straight to the point and often reveal more than you would think. I've had the pleasure of meeting a few of these underground moguls, who by being within their presence gives you more authority.

Proximity to power is the main reason for one's own rise to it. In other words, by serving the modern day equivalents of emperors and kings, I am granted special privileges and access that even "wealthy" people are denied.

Everyone has a role and function in this life. Mine is a technical specialist, an intellectual versed in digital masonry, something these dark industries severely lack.

For years I toiled miserably serving one awful boss to the next. Until word finally spread around to the right group, and I was swiftly picked up my a very large private entity. For about half a year now my relationship is grown with this company, to the point I am allowed time and freedom to pursue my own ventures, all while enjoying the perks of being within the inner circle of a powerful family.

Security these days comes not from wealth or status, but from a network of individuals whose sum power could equate to a small nation or large kingdom.
